The anglicisation of the ETIM standard for the UK is underway.  The EDA has held 7 of the first 25 scheduled Data Standardisation Working Groups where products specialists will pool their expertise to refine and anglicise the ETIM Standard for the UK.

Manufacturer experts share knowledge

Product experts, drawn mainly from the EDA Affiliated Membership base, joined forces at working group meetings held during November and December 2017, with more planned throughout 2018. You’ll find all the details in our events section on this site.

Margaret Fitzsimons, EDA Director, added,

“This is a crucial and detailed piece of work, not just for individual companies but for the industry as a whole.

“It will provide the basis for companies to get their product data into the ETIM format, which is increasingly being demanded by wholesalers in the UK and across the globe.”

“We have been delighted with the support and positive responses of our affiliated members so far.  Over 20 companies have already been involved in one group or another and although data may be considered dull by some, they seem to really enjoy the meetings!

“Some of the product categories have proved to be more challenging than others.  In “Lighting” for example, we realise that there is quite a bit of work to be done to improve the classification of LED products.  For Cable Management, the UK systems vary significantly from those used on the continent so extra work will be required here.”

After each Working Group meeting, David Bate forwards the translations and change requests of the UK to ETIM International for verification by the ETIM Technical Committee after which they are incorporated into the standard for use throughout the 18 ETIM countries.
